What this site is
Huntsville Mold Experts is a free quote service. You tell us what you are seeing (a musty crawl space, a stained attic deck, mold on a basement wall, or water damage after a storm) and where you live in Huntsville, Madison or North Alabama. We pass your request to independent local companies that do mold inspection and remediation so they can contact you with a quote.
The quote is free and you are under no obligation to hire anyone. We usually reply the same day.
What this site is not
We are not a mold company. We don't inspect, test, remove or remediate mold, and we don't do any repair or rebuild work. The companies that quote your job are independent businesses. They set their own prices, scope and terms, and any agreement is between you and the company you choose.
Alabama has no mold license
Many homeowners assume mold companies hold a state mold license. In Alabama, no such license exists. The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) says: “Currently, there are no Alabama laws concerning residential or commercial building mold standards or testing requirements, nor is there any contractor accreditation/certification for contractors performing mold testing or remediation activities.”
That means a company calling itself “state-licensed” for mold is describing something the state does not offer. Credentials in this field are private ones, which is why the questions you ask matter. Other state licenses can still apply to parts of a job, covered below. You can read more in our guide, Does Alabama license mold companies?

What to ask any mold company
ADPH suggests looking for IICRC-certified firms; ask any company for its training and certifications, insurance, and an HBLB license number for rebuild work over $10,000. Here is a fuller checklist to use when the quotes come in:
- Training and certifications. Ask which IICRC (or other) courses the people doing your job have completed, and ask to see them.
- Experience. The EPA advises: “make sure the contractor has experience cleaning up mold.” Ask how many jobs like yours they handle.
- Insurance. Ask for a current certificate of insurance before work starts.
- HBLB license for rebuild. Under Alabama law, residential work over $10,000 (roofing over $2,500) falls under the Home Builders Licensure Board. If the quote includes drywall, insulation, framing or a roof repair, ask for the HBLB license number.
- HACR certification for HVAC. Cleaning air ducts or HVAC equipment in Alabama requires certification from the state HVAC board (HACR). Ask for it if your system is part of the job.
- Older homes. If the home is older, tearing out drywall, flooring or painted surfaces may raise asbestos or lead-paint rules. Ask how the company handles that.
- The water source. The EPA warns that if you clean up mold but don't fix the water problem, the mold will most likely come back. Ask what the plan is for the moisture.
- Testing. The EPA says that when mold is visible, sampling is usually unnecessary, and ADPH says “Testing for molds is not recommended.” Ask why testing is in a quote if it is. See mold inspection & testing.
- A written scope. Ask for containment, removal, cleaning, drying and any rebuild in writing, so you can compare quotes line by line.
